I had a call to my local college today to work on a three month old Zanussi washing machine in the restraurant. When I asked why they were calling me rather than calling the manufacturer, they said that they have been told thast the Zanussi guarantee was void because the machine is on commercial premises. Is this correct? if so is it true for all manufacturers?

The fault was that the wiring to the heater was too tight and pulled the terminal off during spin.

Surely the machine must be fit for the purpose it was sold for, irrespective of the customer or their usage.

I had to laugh though… The normal daily use is 3 to 4 60 degree washes and two 90 degree washes. 😯

    Hi

YES . If its a domestic appliance thats what it should be used for domestic use only. They should be using a commercial machine. They usually buy domestic machines because they are cheaper instead of buying the correct type of machine. The machine is fit for the purpose it was built for. Its the seller who is in the wrong for selling the wrong type of machine.

I suspect most manufacturers would gladly find any excuse not to spend money…the fact that the machine is in a restaurant rather than a domestic dwelling makes that an easy call for them.
I did have one tricky one a few years ago when visiting a domestic house to repair a microwave under guarrantee…the machine was absolutely knackered at 8 months old.
After a bit of carefull questioning it transpired the lady of the house had a very profitable sideline….
“I love walking in the countryside….” she said “…it’s great, I pick any old weed as long as the flower looks pretty, nuke it for about 5 mins in the microwave until its bone dry then add a little scented oil.”
At that point I noticed the dozens of bags of pot pourri stacked high on the worktop….each with a £2.95 price tag on them! 😉

Our policy on commercial installations is to half the normal warranty.
So on most of our stuff a commercial installation will be one year warranty. 🙂
A bit better than Zanussi methinks.

domestic machines are quite often used for commercial use which given the price difference is hardly supprising at 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} tax write off each year for smaller users this fine so long as they dont expect a gurantee. Ive several customers who use and replace and get along just fine in fact a local vet has only just gone over to commercial machines as the surgery has now out grown two zanussi running all day.
the problem starts when the machine type difference is not pointed out first or not accepted by the buyer, vacuums are worse 3 acres of office carpet and a second hand 1334 from the car boot sale ,say no more.

We have had problems where suppliers dont want to support a machine which is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} domestic use but its at the same address as a commercial location – ie the private living quarters of a pub, the wardens flat of a care home or a school caretakers house.

Its a hell of a job sometimes to get a service call under warranty as the dumbo in the call centre has a very black and white view of life.
