ParticipantHi,
My SMEG UK91MFX door isn’t closing properly. It’s always been a tiny bit loose but now it gapes by approx 10mm at the top, slightly mwider on the right hand than the left. (It also lets out a huge amount of noise frmo the oven fans).
I’ve taken the door off according to the instructions in the manual, and noticed one strange thing. The hinge on the left hand side seems to be very strongly sprung, to hold the door closed, but the hinge on the right seems actually to work the other way, as it to hold the door open.
When I remove the oven door seal the door closes fine, but obviously doesn’t seal.
My question is:Are the hinges meant to be different or is the one on the right broken?
Can I adjust the hinges?
Do door seals expand with age so will a new one be somehow ‘thinner’?
Yours puzzledly.
Matt

You have a faulty hinge there, the only cure is to replace both as a pair.
The usual cause of hinge failure is excessive weight being placed on the open door, the leverage at the hinge end of the door can be enormous 😉
If you need an engineer then have a look at repairs@ to find someone near you.

Defo hinge failure Matt. Always replace as a pair – p/no 931330551 each side. Email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering.
The new pair will have enough tension to overcome the resistance of the door seal.

A pair of new hinges did the job.
Now I have to wrestle with the door to get it open, but it’s quieter and like I remember it used to be.
At the same time I gave the inside of the glass a good clean so I can see in properly.
Thanks for your help and advice.
