ParticipantA problem has developed on a Hotpoint WM 65. 🙁
The carbons have been replaced and the machine functioned for three washes. It has since ceased to function in spin mode although the motor is turning and the pump motor is operating. The motor appears to be trying to gain spin speed but slows to wash cycle speed.I did notice circular arcing on the comutator during high spin which may indicate damage to the motor or speed control. Is the speed control integral with this motor assembly ?Before considering a motor replacement could you adviseFebruary 1, 2006 at 1:39 pm #162943Dave_Conway

Did whoever fitted the brushes release them correctly from the holders by lifting the tag ?
Worth checking as it happens all the time 😉
Power off please :zap:

Oh dear!
Looks like the armature is also at fault 🙁 Earlier motor armatures can be replaced dependent on the serial number of your machine to confirm that though. Do not persist in running the motor in these circumstances as you can blow the Timer/Module unit also 😯
Expert assistance may be your best option (see link below)

If you’re reasonably sure, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply you with an ARM20 replacement armature at a sensible cost. This was, after all, one of the last decent Hotpoints and is worth persevering with for a while yet.
