ParticipantJust been reading Simon46’s post re water/fat in rotor chamber of magnetic pump. Which prompts me to ask: How long does one of these pumps last once the impellor end seal is breached ❓ It looks to me as though they are designed to last well after water first gets through. By the time I get to them, they are usually full of crud and appear to have been soldiering on like that for months or years. Due to the stainless nature of the rotor/shaft and nylon(?) bearings it is(IMO) usually bearing wear that stops them in the end by allowing the rotor to catch on the barrel.
OK you can wake up now.

Your observations are quite correct I reckon, and goes to show what a great device they’ve turned out to be overall. Functional and adaptable to many and varied products, cheap to produce, cheap to replace and very profitable for us as repairers.
I’m sure statistically the advent of the magnet pump over the shaded pole has been a godsend to us all 🙂

And they only need about a third as much juice to run. Maybe they could make a more efficient washing machine main motor? Probably not necessary while energy remains so cheap. 😉

The “Big Askoll” used as a circulation pump in dishwashers has proved to be a bit if a disaster.

Good question, the 2007 is more than twice the cost of the other. The usual difference between the older screw on askoll’s was that some had cut outs on and some didnt. Maybe its the same with these square, twist on ones. (that are easy to break when un-twisting by the way)
