ParticipantHello
Our dishwasher has just begun to produce less than perfect results. It’s just over a year old and the cutlery has begun to have rusty brown spots on that require a hand wash to get rid of.
Also some glasses come out with a dry residue on.I use tablets but also keep the salt and rinse aid filled and use dishwasher cleaner once a month.
I wondered whether he recent cold snap was causing condensation once the programme had finished that was having a reaction as it’s against an outside wall…

Have a read of this as a starting point:

Maintaining the rinse aid in the dispenser is almost dertainly causing an overdosing effect when added to what is contained in the tablet.
In general, engineers don’t like tablets, as you have no control over the dosing. We like powder, rinse aid and salt all as separates, allowing you to “fine tune” your wash process.

Thanks for the swift response.
Is there any reason why this should have just started though? Up to press I have had no cause for complaint and then in this last week the various spots and cloudiness have started.February 4, 2006 at 8:46 am #163312Martin

Rusty spots on cutlery could be due to metallic pollutants from steel cookware? Salt container cap not tightened securely and salt leaking through? Old stainless cutlery simply washed out?
Bits on crockery often a result of insufficient water spray action caused by: Overloading, insufficient water filling, blocked holes in spray arms or using an ‘economy wash’ setting with a full load!

What detergent is it that you’re using? Are you aware of whether you are in a soft, medium or hard water area? What machine is it?
Cloudy glasses can be caused by overdosing salt or using salt where it is not required.
Rust spots are liable to be different metals coming into contact with one another causing a reaction. Often though what is seen as rust is actually food residues that effectively bake onto the cutlery.
If you can give a bit more info I should be able to help a bit more.
