ParticipantHi, we have a 2 year old WDE 12 which has just come up with an error code F-13, which I gather is “drying thermistor is open or short-circuited”.
If this is a problem with the dryer, then I assume we should be able to still do a wash with it. But when we programme it and it starts to run (even before it fills up with water), the machine is making a rather sinister noise (deep rumbling/grating sound). So I’m worried that it might stop half way through the cycle and we’ll be left with having to drain it out by hand.
Any advice? By the description of the fault it sounds like it should be something quite simple that we can check out ourselves. Where exactly is the drying thermistor located?
By the way, we very very rarely use the dryer at all, so I’m surprised that there is a fault with it.
Any help much appreciated!
Cheers, Anna

Probably the drain pump making that noise (worn out OR something caught in it?

I doubt it to be honest, whilst it is located in a prominent position on the dryer unit, unless you can test and isolate other options, you’d best call in the experts on that.. (see link below) 😉

Thanks Martin!
We just emptied out the drain so that should be clear. But I’ll check again.
Actually, I realised that the machine won’t actually let ANY programme start whilst this fault is displayed. Does this seem right?

Yes, pretty much all detected faults will abort all programmes on these I’m afraid 🙁

Anna, the thermistor is a device fitted to the dryer heater chamber on the top of the machine, it usually has two thin wires which terminate in a plug that fits into the thermistor.
If you are lucky you may temporarily eliminate this fault by very gently wiggling the wires and trying the machine again. If it works then you have a bad connection on the plug (a common fault).
:zap: DON’T FORGET TO PULL THE PLUG BEFORE REMOVING THE LID OF THE MACHINE IF YOU DECIDE TO HAVE A LOOK :zap:
