ParticipantHi folks – has anyone else had problems with the doors on Lofra cookers? The door side members have fractured where the handle screws on. Both side show fatigue fractures and the door falls to pieces when the handle parts company with the door causing a safety hazard.
From the look of the fractures and the way the door is constructed this could be a problem with the triple glazed door design.
Is any one else having problems?

hi pat
if this oven is used in a domestic enviroment then the parts would be covered F.O.C.
it will require the 2 side channels which is a easy job for a engineer.
but if its commercial (going by your name) then they will not cover the appliance under warranty as its a domestic cooker( not commercial).

ParticipantHi Bryan Thanks for your response. Lofra’s response is to demand £85-50p to recitfy on the excuse that the cooker is 2 to 3 years old and is used infrequently in a domestic kitchen. Lofra is well aware of all of this.
As a proffesional engineer I am appaled at the poor design of the door handle fixing. The use of counter sunk screws, thin stainless steel, large clearance holes in the outer glass and the mismatch in countersunk angles between the screw head and the handle spacer all serve to place the metal where it is restrained by the screw head uder great stress. All the standard text books on engineering indicate that failure will occure this this type of fixing. My belief is that Lofra have a problem and need to as you indicate to repair such failures at their expense and to condider a product recall in view of what could happen if the door handle comes of with a hot oven.
Any ideas as to the price of the two side members less the hinges please?March 3, 2006 at 2:19 pm #166713admin
