This frige is tripping the earth leakage protection device in the switch board every 12 or so hours. This leads me to believe it is in the defrost circuit. Can someone suggest if I am to replace parts what is the most likely place to start

Can’t claim any great expertise in regard to refrigeration beyond the general principals. What you are describing would suggest the defrost element itself having developed an earth fault, so that would be the place to start – get it meggered for leakage. It’s usually on the back panel somewhere, occasionally behind the evaporator, which can be a bit awkward.

    Power off when investigating.
