Recently moved in to house and previous owners had left integrated freezer on fast freeze. I didn’t realise until yesterday when freezer had defrosted. The compressor now appears to run continually but the freezer won’t freeze. I have tried switching off and on to no avail. If I switch off the fast freeze the alarm sounds continously and only mutes when switched back to fast-freeze.
What is the most likely fault and what can I do about it. Money is a bit tight as just moved so any help or advice would be appreciated.

I’m afraid it may be terminal or pretty costly. It sounds like the permanent running on fast freeze has damaged the compressor 🙁

It may also have been that it wasn’t working correctly for some time and the previous owners put it on fast freeze to try and make it get down to temperature.

Either way it will need confirming by a refrigeration engineer who can check for gas loss, compressor failure etc.

Try the repairs@ link below 🙂

Thanks Dave, An engineer has been around and confirmed that it is the compressor. quoted £180 to supply and fit does that sound fair? Problem is that freezer is only 2 years old and the engineer said that freezer had already had 1 replacement compressor which makes me wonder whether it makes sense to have it repaired? any views?

Yep, that is about right price-wise.

If they are failing that quickly the engineer needs to check for adequate ventilation/correct installation and that the compressor cooling fan motor is running 🙂
