    I have a 6 year old Kyoto KU 127 11.8cu.ft. upright freezer from Iceland (made in Italy) that has just stopped working properly. The motor and lights come on but no cooling, the compressor gets hot. The output from the compressor is slightly cooler than the input.

    I have had someone in to look at it and they said it had either lost its gas or the compressor was faulty and that it wasn’t worth repairing.

    Is this likely to be correct or have I wasted my money on this service visit?

    If it is not worth repairing I would be grateful for some suggestions of a similar size replacement that might last a bit longer.

    Your views would be appreciated.

    hi chris

    the cost of a compressor replacement for this should be around the £165 mark dependant on where you live.

    replacing the compressor should give you a good life span if a good quality compressor is used for the repair.

    Bryan,

    Thanks for your reply. Do you mean that a number of different compressors can fit my freezer? Also do you think that the gas hasn’t leaked?

    yes there are several different compressor manufacturers that will fit your appliance,leakage at 6yrs old is very doubtful,more likely to be compressor seals failure(sealed unit cannot be repaired).

    im an iceland engineer if it puts you at mind edge the only thing that ever goes wrong with the ku127 is that brandt ocean (the maker) puy on hpt crap compressors.
    it def worth replacing compressor after all its nearly 13 cuft freezer.

    😉 leaks in the freezer door circuit as it ages can also be a problem. tis likely to be poorly pumping compressor though as expertcat says.
