ParticipantHi, I’m new here. I’ve got a basic knowledge of white goods, i.e. electrical safety, how to strip things down and put them back together.
I have a Hotpoint TL51P dryer that suddenly stopped turning. If I turn the drum by hand it will start again but not for long. Could it be the brushes? If so what are they like to change?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Oz

Brushless motor. Try the start capacitor. Unplug the machine before you do anything.

Thaks for the quick reply, knowledge too basic for that. Where will I find it and what does it look like?

Oz,
We can’t for a variety of reasons, walk you through it – there’s a sticky at the top of the forum outlining why. If you’re not sure, you must get pro help.By way of a clue though, it looks like this:

On the capacitor there are two terminals. I marked which cables came off which terminals on the original (one brown cable on one and twin red cables to the other). The trouble is there are no markings on the old capacitor and there are none on the new one either. Does it matter which way round I connect them?

Nope, as long as the two reds go together 😉

I have had exactley the same symptoms with exactley the same item, searched the web through Google and was amazed to find a result like this. Needless to say I have ordered a new capacitor through you guys and have probably saved near £200 for a new machine.
Thanks guys – excellent ! 😀
