ParticipantWhirlpool 6th Sense ADP2962
12-digit code: 8542 962 15510Only a few years old. Recently it stopped finishing normally – the “End” light would always be flashing after a cycle, even after turning off and back on. Pressing and holding the “Start” button would start the drain pump and it would go to “End” although the dishes would be wet. Now the drain pump runs continuously and nothing will make it start a cycle. No water or signs of water in the tray. The filters were pretty greasy when I checked so I thought perhaps a tube gunged up somewhere? Otherwise I presume it’s electronics?
Anything I can try?

Hi
I would imagine water in the base (under the main wash tank) due to a leak or overfill.Greg

The start light will be flashing a code. Count the number of flashes between pauses and post the result here. We’ll be able to help a little further then.

Hi
Error 4
Drain problem, faulty water indicator or faulty electronics.Greg

Thanks for the info but I’m not sure that it gets me much further forward.
Drain problem: if I pour water into the machine it gets pumped out.
Faulty water indicator (at first I read that as “faulty water” indicator and wondered how water could be faulty). Where is the indicator and how can I test it? I’ve got a multimeter and basic electrical skills (and I promise I’ll turn it off before doing anything).
Presumably when everything else has been eliminated it’s the electronics.March 6, 2006 at 9:05 pm #167702gegsy

Hi
If I was doing the repair I would check what you have done, ie blockages and water in drip tray. If all checks out ok I would then go onto Water indicator (481227128407) and change it. Last resort I would change the PCB/module (481221478429).Greg

I’ve had a look for both those parts in Shop@ and on other suppliers websites but can’t find them. I can identify the PCB (sort of leaps out at you) but what does the Water Indicator look like and where would it be situated?

Water indicator is 3 o clock postion, r/h side of sump. Circular in shape and can be seen if you take filters out. Its a twist and lock affair, and can be fun 🙄 to change.

My father-in-law keeps going on about a “one-time” flood prevention device on his dishwasher – a plug of some material that swells when wet and trips a switch. Once triggered (by water) it has to be replaced. Is that a common thing? Presumably there isn’t anything like that on the Whirlpool?

No, that system was only ever used on some old Electrolux dishwashers to my knowledge.

OK. The good news: I found the Water Indicator and the front of it was all gunked up. The bad news: I didn’t realise there was a diaphragm involved and managed to puncture it while trying to clean it. So a new switch is required, the problem is where to get one. Greg/Gegsy gave a number for it – 481227128407 – but I can’t find that anywhere. Is it a UK Whitegoods internal thing?

ParticipantThanks. Google only comes back with German links but I’ve emailed Shop@UKWhitegoods. Be nice to get this fixed.

Success. New Water Indicator switch obtained from Shop@ (thanks Dave & co) and eventually found the time to fit it. After a brief scare when I switched back on and the drain pump started up everything worked perfectly. It’s now working like new.
Thanks to everyone who helped. This is a wonderful site with great contributors.
