Hi folks
Went to a Hotpoint CTD00G cond, t/dry yesterday. 18mth old. Cust complaining noisy.
Looks like Hotpoint have followed the lead of Whirlpool and are running the drum on two wheels to suport the front of the drum. Unlike W/pool the wheels don’t have tyres on and they are just plastic wheels and the one looks groved all ready from wear. I suspect this is where the noise is coming from as lifting the drum while in motion + reverse action lessens the noise considerably.
I know there are loads of you Hotpoint experts out there so:-
Questions:
1) Has anybody come across this before as looks a bit of a design fault?
2) Is there a mod.? if so what is required?
3) Although it looks easy enough to remove the wheels, is there enough clearence to change them without removing the drum or do I not waste time trying and just bite the bullet?
4) Anyone got the partno for the wheels?

Part number 1702964 for just the wheel, 1703273 for the wheel and mount.

A well known fault that has been modified, they have reverted back to the old type bearing pads, its whats called progress 😥 , a conversion kit includes all seals, pads, drum shaft and fitting instructions. Some engineers leave the pulleys in situ but I removed them completely on one I did last week.

Just checked the mod part no. and got one of those kits on the van but thought they were a mod kit for the “catching the back panel” & ” falling off the front bearings” syndrome on the vent type driers.
Presumably it also fixes the “rumbley front wheels” syndrome as well so does that mean I will find the holders for the front bearing pads on the front moulding even though the machine was using wheels to support the drum?

You dont have to remove drum just the side panels and ease front panel forward screwdriver to remove wheels leaving wheel mounts, shove in only 4 bearing pads looking from the front dont fit the top right it has been deleted now, if the belt is okay i’d leave it on, about 20 mins to do.

Holders are still on the front air duct. 🙂 You will find front felt and bearing pads in the kit. Can be awkward to get drum back into position with new parts on but kit normally works. They have also modified the back panel to give more clearance where the drum edge runs past the air vents.

The one I did last week was my first, not to bad. One thing I did notice, I am not to sure how long they have been using these but after all these years with that pathetic plastic rear square bearing bush, they are now using what appears to be a phospher bronze rear bearing.

Without you folks would have just gone and relplaced wheels but they looked so crap thought they must have given loads of probs.. at least hotpoint have owned up to there bad design and done a mod. – with a bit of luck maybe they’ve sacked thier design enginner.. oops.. second thoughts I shouldn’t say that as these look like good money spiners.
