ParticipantI’ve had the ‘tub’ off of our SGS5312 to look for damaged wires or components in the base and found nothing, so am assuming the problem I’ve described in the Dishwasher Forum is due to a controller issue.
Looks like these modules are over £100 new, which easily buys a decent condition replacement machine on eBay.
QER aren’t showing any in stock. Are there any other sources for refurb or recovered units?
Generally, can I get an accurate price from someone for a suitable unit?
Many thanks

Is it one of:
– Not at that price?
– Not of sufficent quality?
– Isn’t the world a funny place?
– Something else?March 9, 2006 at 12:46 pm #168901Goatboy

You can’t get a ‘quality’ dishwasher off feebay for that price. :lesson:

I guess it depends where you’re coming from.
I have a 6-year old dishwasher that I could spend £100+ fixing up.
I’m in London, so there are often similarly aged (often a generation or two newer) Bosch items nearby that finish at £65-80 on eBay.
I’m also not sure that it is the control board, so getting a working model is also a lower risk that paying the £100+ only to find it is something else afterall.

I’ve heard alot of bad expierences from feebay! 😕
People are in my shop, and on the phone nearly everyday saying…
“I bought this **** of feebay, and I need it’s not doing this…”
So I say…
“Give it back to whoever you got it off!”
And that’s when they start crying and moaning to me about feebay 🙁
I suppose being in London, you don’t have many independent appliance engineers, that have shops containing re-conditioned dishwashers. If it ws my dishwasher, I’d fix it, or look at a new one, not a second-hand one unless it has been reconditioned by a professional.

I looked around for suppliers of recon machines, firstly in the phone book (couldn’t see a single one: anyone know the right heading?) and then literally driving around some of the areas I thought might have them lined up outside. 2nd hand office furniture is relatively easy to find!
I’m happy to fix things up myself given a reasonable chance of success. I probably fix a half-dozen appliance parts a year: remotes that have been dropped enough to need a cracked solder joint wetting; new brushes in the washing machine; broken handles splinted with Araldite; etc.
It’s my personal belief that newer appliances are being build to lower standards, and I’d much rather keep an old but generally reliable appliance in use for this reason and also to avoid the environmental impact of bringing in a whole new appliance for the sake of a small component. The prevailing economics of spare parts doesn’t see to support this approach though!
Whether that’s one I fix myself (and can judge the merits of reparing) or one that an independent repairer has fixed (and offers a warranty on) I’m agnostic on.

I’d just look for shops that do repairs and sales, then phone them and ask if they have any reconditioned dishwashers.
And the rest of your post is disscussed at great length in the trade forums 😕 I would comment, but it could start yet another arguement/discussion with the trade guys. The only thing we all do agree on, is that spares are stupidly over-priced! 🙁

Are there outfits that do ‘strip/store/sell’ on parts from white goods that householders are disposing of? What do the councils do with the stuff they come to collect, or that we take to the refuse site?

There’s a company called Create in Liverpool…
But, that’s Liverpool, Most appliances will be scrapped! Expect a few that past by Goatboy. I see alot of used appliances. Some are reconditioned, but most are scrapped, because there knackered 🙁
I’m going home now. Good Luck Ian
