ParticipantHi all
This is my first post on this forum, It never occured to me that there would be a forum for white goods. Fantastic, I am very grateful for any help that anyone can offer.
I have an Electra AWM 1100B washing machine. It started making a terrible noise when the drum was spinning. I removed the back of the machine and removed the nut on the main pulley assembly located at the centre of the drum. The bearing is shot, one or two of the bearings have disintegrated completely and there is a good few mil of play of the central spindle. I cannot see how the bearing can be removed. I have tried levering it with a fair amount of force and it won’t budge.
My question’s are:
1.) Can the bearing be replaced?
2.) If so where could I get one?
3.) How should I remove the bearing, should I try to hammer it out or does it push out from the other side (although I can’t imagine how) etc.I would be very gratefull for any help and advice as money is tight and I can’t afford to lose the machine for the sake of a little bearing.
Cheers.

The bearing you are looking at is in fact the rear of 2 bearings, the other one is probably even more shot to pieces.
In short, the backplate and inner drum needs to be removed. Its a major job, but easier than on some machines. If the bearing is broken up badly you may also need the backplate itself. Ensure it is disconnected from the mains electricity before touching anything.March 13, 2006 at 11:30 pm #169388Dave_Conway

As Mark says, it’s two bearings and a seal required for the basic job, you may need more as the bearings have obviously failed quite badly 😉

Thanks for the response Mark
I did think it was strange that I could see beyond the bearing, ie into a void directly behind the bearing when looking up close with a torch, the inner bearing must be missing completely.
Can I just clarify, do I need to remove the drum assembly completely from the machine and then remove the rotating inner drum to gain access to the bearing from the inside of the outer drum?
I think that makes sense 😕
and please don’t worry, I have completely isolated the machine from both mains water and ❗ power ❗ .
Thanks again.

Thanks Dave.
Do you know whether the parts required are easy to obtain?
Do you know where I could get the neccessary parts?
How can I find out the part number? as I can’t seem to find any contact information for a company called Electra, is it a rebadge of something else??
Sorry for the quickfire question round 😳
but I need to get it fixed for the kids schoolwear mainly. It’s a relative priority and I really appreciate the help. 8)
