ParticipantHi,
I bought a brand new Hotpoint BFI680 less than a week ago.
I filled the salt container as per the manual (filling with water first, then adding salt) however, the salt indicator light is constantly flashing even though the salt container is full.
I just wanted to check if I have missed something, before I call out a Hotpoint engineer, so is there anything I can check?

Apart from what you have already done (filled it with salt) there’s little else you can do to be honest.
Try Hotpoint customer service, if they are aware of any issues they will let you know and book an engineer if neccessary.
Dave.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll give Hotpoint a call.

Just to let you know, the salt indicator should go out after 5 cycles.
these models are slightly different to previous hotpoints in as much as the salt indicator will come after 29 cycles (counted by the micro processor), at this point it will fill the machine with 600cc ofwater at the end of the cycle, you then open the salt cap and fill with salt, this should displace a further 600cc of water enough to close the pressure switch contacts. so that the next time you use it the controls recorgnise the pressure switch contacts are closed and start counting all over again. Therefore if you add approx 1 litre of cold water to the sump the next time you use it should start the process off.
A long winded explanation of a simple process 😆 😆

I thought initially that we had used it more than 5 times when I first read this, however over the weekend the salt light has gone out and all seems to be working properly now. 😀
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
