Dishwasher is 2 -3 years old. About 3 months ago the inlet/drain red light ‘lit up’. I cleaned the inlet filter (although it looked okay) and the drain pump (which also looked okay). On switching back on the washer, the inlet/drain light was not lit, but the machine appeared to be stuck in what I think is the drain cycle, although there was only a small amount of water in the very bottom (under the filter combination).
After leaving the machine switched off for a couple of days, the problem seemed to have gone away and the machine could be used as normal. Since then, every few weeks, the program seems to get stuck in the drain cycle and the machine can only be used again after leaving it switched off for a few days.
    Any ideas please?
    Many thanks.

It sounds like a leak into the undertray of the machine – flood protection system cuts in and runs the drain pump. A wait of several days would allow enough of the water to evaporate to reset the flood protect.

So, drain undertray and find the leak. Power off, of course. If you are not confident, click the link below for pro help.

Check l/h side uplift pipe which is connected from top of inline heater. This plastic pipe wears where it enters top of tank and leaks and overflows from top of tank to base in a stream, tell tale signs will be apparent.

    Hi

Many thanks for both replies. If there was a leak wouldn’t the drain pump continue running each time I use the machine? The problem only occurs every couple of weeks.

    Thanks

Like Penguin said its probably a leak in the drip tray, probably evaporates and allows flood float to lower for a few uses then off it goes again.

I have a similar problem on a G692 SC Plus but when I have taken the undertray off I have never found any traces of water in the tray or signs of leaks elsewhere. The dishwasher then works fine for a week or two before having the inlet light flashing again. Slightly strange but if I pull it out and I tip it sideways slightly it will then work. (I don’t get any water leaking from the undertray either even when I left it slightly loose one time to see if there was any.

I’m pretty sure there’s something going on with the flood protection switch. Could I just remove the polystyrene float for a few days/weeks to see if that’s what’s causing the problem or would that be incredibly stupid.

    TIA

Not incredibly stupid, but If it did have a leak; then without any flood protection there is a chance the motors, electrics and flooring may become permanently damaged; not to mention the shock hazard.
As you say, there is no trace of water in the base so I think you can rule out a leak.

Just had a thought. Have you checked the microswitch for any signs of damage ie rust, water remnants etc. I had on of these playing up because of that and when you tilt it moves the switch slightly.

    Unplug before investigating :plug:

Hi Greg, thanks for the reply

Have you checked the microswitch for any signs of damage ie rust, water remnants etc.

Apologies for may what sound like a simple question but when you say microawitch, do you mean the button/switch that the polystyrene float pushes against? That doesn’t seem to get stuck at all and “clicks freely when pressed.

If you are referring to something else, can you give me a pointer as to what?

    Many thanks

You are correct the one that sits above float. 😀

Is it just the inlet/outlet light flashing, or is the pump continually running as well (which is what was happening in the above fault). The flood protection does not operate the inlet/outlet light so I think you have a different problem.

Intermittent operation the inlet/outlet light often indicates a problem with the water level sensor in the machine but there are enough other possibilities that I would recommend a proffesional for this job.

It’s been fine for 6 weeks now so it must have been the switch sticking. Thanks for your help greg.
