ParticipantFollowing on from the NVQ training discussion as I`m totally against parting with my hard earned cash , I thoght I better come up with a viable alternative.
It`s The Gold Star Award and here`s the masterplan π
Unlike the NVQ this is dead simple , all you have to do is gather 1000 signatures from your customers testifying to your competence and workmanship. You will need to back this up with a copy of original invoice of completed repair and of course all signatures and work done can be verified by us.
No cowboy or incompetent is going to be able to get 1000 signatures and all you have to do is send this documentation to us along with a registration fee of Β£100 to cover our expenses as the wife will have a lot of envelopes to open and those gold stars don`t come cheap π .
This Gold Star Award will go on to be the industry recognised standard and I`ve run this idea by my local MP and he`s willing to present it to parliament for approval as long as he gets a decent back hander for his efforts.
This is coming whether you like it or not so you better get them signatures and your cheques to us as soon as possible before it`s forced upon you.You can of course use the gold star on all your advertising etc. and I`m sure people will recognise it and your workload will shoot up , easily recouping your Β£100 investment.
For those of you with more than 1 engineer , they will still need to collect 1000 signatures each but we will be doing 3 for the price of 2 π .This of course doesn`t address the issue of new blood entering the business but I`m working on the Silver Star Award.
Bloody hell I did this as a joke but it`s not bad compared to what`s being touted around at the moment.
Anyway that`s it…..The Gold Star Award…….anyone got any other bright ideas and don`t bother stealing this one or me and my MP will be after you.Thats got it off my chest π .
Cheers

Sign me up for that Bryan! Quite agree with your stand on this, I have just sent Mr. CORGIE Β£200.00 for the pleasure of carrying out the job i have for the last 25 years, so all i need is some other goverment body to milk me dry for the pleasure of working.
What other trades have to pay for the pleasure to carry out the work they do?
I recon we should make a stand and tell them where to shuv there NVQ.
Same old story bloody great hammer to crack a little nut.
Why dont her majisty’s bods crack down on the cowboys direct instead of fannying around with the rest of us.
There got that load off! π

I think I smell something fishy about this. Something tells me the gold used to make the star may have been procured from Ratner’s.
In any case I don’t see any harm in allowing the local handyman to have a crack at fixing the Arseton/Indecent Margrit 2000’s etc which we are reluctant to get around to. Once he’s put all the wires back the wrong way round and the machine’s gone up in flames the customer’s had a chance to learn not to employ him again and to spend a bit more money on the next machine. π

PS – Mike , you`ll need 2000 signatures for your Gold Star Award , you see its at our discretion and we can change the rules as we go along π .

Everybody round here knows I’m the man to fix yer washer. So if you decide to enforce this Gold Star thing I’m just gonna cross out “appliances” in my ad and write “general handyman” and the only way to catch me will be to send in Matt Allright (Rogue Traders) with his film crew. Fame at last as I get free TV exposure. (All publicity is good publicity).

Bryan I donβt think you should be promoting a scheme in this forum that you wife is likely to profit from it sounds a bit like a sales pitch to me. IMO. π
Well done 10/10
