ParticipantMy dad has a CTD00 which has the following symptoms. Motor can be heard turning, but drum does not turn. Heater OK.
So, thinks I, that’ll be the belt and it can’t be too difficult to change. I’ll open it up and have a look. But I can’t even get the top off to have a look!! I have taken out the 2 screws at the back of the top plate, but the top remains fixed at the front and I don’t want to force it, not knowing which way it is intended to move!
thanks for any help

(Disconnect from the mains first and formost)
The lid just pushes backwards but is always very tight if it has never been off before, it’s most likely just the belt that has broken but it’s a stretch fit belt on this and very awkward to fit as the new belt will seem too short, just keep trying and it will go on! If not goto Repairs@ and fill in the details and a repairer will contact you.Nige

Very good advice from nigegt, this belt change is not a DIY job, very difficult, the Hotpoint engineers have a special tool to assist refitting of this belt.

A handy tip for fitting these belts is, use cable ties to fasten the belt halfway around the wheel and around the motor at the bottom. Then turn the inner drum at the front of the machine with some force and the cable tie should snap off the wheel and the belt is on.

❓ This is a tumble dryer query, are you thinking about the well known tip for refitting WMA washing machine belts?March 24, 2006 at 11:51 am #170604quirkwashers

Thanks for all this info guys. The belt sounds a bit trickier than anticipated, and I haven’t got a long time available to battle with it to get it on, so sounds like we’ll get someone in.
