ParticipantHi,
I put a tablet in the soap dispenser and run my dishwasher though recently I’ve been finding that when I use the washed mugs there is a soapy taste.
Any thoughts as to I can ensure I don’t have the soapy taste?
It seems only to have occured recently and I can’t figure out why. Dishes seem to be clean generally, I use a normal cycle, just that the mugs recently have the soapy taste.
Regards.

Hi,
Number 1 did you change the tablets you use,2 is the filter clean so all the soap doesn’t dte washed through proparly and 3 is it heating up.
Cheers.

KeymasterHi Tycoon,
Also, what tablets is it that you’re using and what’s the water like there, as in soft/medium/hard?

Water is medium to hard I’m guessing though not sure. I’ve put salt in and rinse aid in.
Yes, I changed the tablets, currently on 2nd type (used Tesco lemon type, and currently on Finish. If I remember I think it was ok with Tesco normal/original – I will try those again)
I’ll check the filter. The thing i remember is a little while ago I was putting pasta sauce bottles in there (incl labelling) to pass clean bottles onto someone else to use. I’m thinking maybe the labelling could have removed and gone somewhere in the machine? I will check.
Re: Heating up – not sure as I am normally in another room. I will check.
Thanks for your responses, and do feel free to continue to contribute as I welcome receiving any further opinions.
Best wishes.

Have you changed from normal tablets to 3in1 or 4in1 tablets and still putting rinse aid in dispenser?

I think the lemon ones were 4 in 1, and yes have kept the rinse aid in
Tonight i’ll use the Tesco original ones which are also 4 in 1, and still have rinse aid in machine.
I think it has always been ok with the original ones so we shall see.
Thank you, and please feel free to continue to contribute

Ok the whole point of 3 or 4 in 1s is that you can (in theory) discontinue using salt and rinse aid as they are built into tablet.
What you are doing is overdosing in salt(if used) and definately in rinse aid which can cause frothing and lead to allsorts of overfill problems.Greg

Great, thank you. Do you think that could be causing the soapy taste?
I haven’t filled the rinse aid/salt for a while though I think the rinse aid reservoir indicates it still has some left.
You’re not meant to use rinse aid/salt with the 3 in 1s either, yes? I heard that some people still did though wasn’t sure.

Wouldn’t use 3-in-1 tabs full stop.
Much better wash results using seperate powder, salt and rinse aid IMHO.

I agree and more important to use seperates in a bosch for example with “auto” as the wash cycle will vary due to how soiled the water is. There is a chance that the 3 or 4 in 1 tablets will decay at the incorrect time with poor wash results.

I have a Bosch ‘Logixx Automatic’ dishwasher SGS09L08. I find that 3-in-1’s are just no good…the automatic programmes can last up to 2hours 45minutes, so I find I still need to use rinse-aid.
I have tried using Ecover ‘environmentally friendly’ tablets (and rinse-aid) previously, in a Hoover machine and a Zanussi machine. After a week, the machines smelled absolutely rancid. My mother complained of “rotten meat smell”; it really was quite dreadful. Switching back to Finish, cleared it up.
So, the moral of the story is stick to the well-known, recommended, quality brands – such as FINISH or FAIRY.

I suggest obviously getting main waste food off plates in bin and quick rinse under tap and then load in dishwasher for a quicker wash on auto and a much sweeter smelling wash 😉
