ParticipantAfter Rinse and Hold cycle is complete, door can be opened with exciting results. Should there be any interlock to the water level sensor? If there is an interlock, is it busted?

hi
the only thing that holds the door shut is the door lock (interlock)and this is controlled by electricity. these machines do not have a door lock that is controlled by the water level
if the machine is finished (or believes its finished)it will allow you to open the door weather it is full of water or not
if you are half way through the prog and you turn it off it will unlock the door (aftre about 2 mins)

Many thanks for the quick response. The logic of that escapes me. Do more expensive machines behave like that?

hi
most machines work with the same principal today (just an electric door lock)
with a machine that locked when full of water and buy an electrical door lock it was difficult to get your clothes out when the pump got blocked. in the case of hotpoints the pump was accessed from underneath or the back.
it was also difficult for an engineer to get the machine out of its location to repair it as it is extreemly heavy when full of water

A rinse hold cycle is NOT complete until you turn to a drain program :lesson: to empty the water.

My Zanussi IZ16 locks the door mechanically. The downside being that if a fault occurs during operation, the door is then jammed shut… 🙁
The old Hoover machines (1980’s ‘Electronic 1100’, 1990’s ‘Logic’) used double-locking; both electrically and mechanically. To open the door during the cycle, you had to physically select a ‘STOP’ point on the programme selector, then wait 2 minutes for the door interlock to release.
The Hoover ‘New Waves’ of the mid-nineties used two mechanical methods to lock the door: a pneumatic system that detected water in the tub; and a belt-pecker/bowden cable assembly that kept the door locked when the drum was in motion.
