ParticipantHi, Have a candy fridge/freezer ( 2.1/2 years old ) when switched on the compresser starts for a few seconds and then stops, then a clicking starts from the relay behind the front control panel. Has anybody any ideas whats the problem. Thanks, tommy.

The following probably apply..
1) duff start relay
2) open circuit start/run windings
3) compressor seizedItem 1.. ..you could try replacing the start relay
Item 2 and 3…..time for a new compressor.
Don’t be too hopeful on the relay replacement, they’re pretty reliable these days.

Hi Kevin, thanks for your reply, I’ll check the windings for an open circuit and if that seems o/k I’ll take a chance on replacing the relay, must be the cheapest option. again many thanks, Tommy

Please make sure to let us know how you get on – I posted what sounds like exactly the same symptoms but got no response.
Since the compressor does run, albeit briefly and doesn’t trip the toc, I don’t understand what would cause the relay on the control board to deactivate/reactivate unless it draws so much current that the voltage drops?
Shouldn’t (1) or (2) cause the toc to trip?
Since the compressor runs, I don’t understand (3)?March 29, 2006 at 10:44 pm #170992stowell

Hi, just to keep you informed that i have purchased a new Danfoss 103N0021 relay off an ebay seller (domesticsareus) for £7.75 incl post “cheapest option” as all the information i have received leads to the relay causing the problem. Have had the compressor running when it has been off several hours by turning it to super frost and it worked until the fridge/freezer was running normal temperature and then it switched off as normal but then went into the on/off fit again when it tried to start. Will post again when I have receive and fitted the relay, Dave.

If you post the model number please, the original poster’s info of NLY11KK2/R600A42G is incorrect (this is the compressor detail).
It’s almost certainly the PCB though.
Dave.
