I’ll admit to being new to this. The heater on my washing machine has broken. I have the replacement heater element but cannot remove the old one from the drum. It appears to be just a push fit, but it won’t budge. Can anyone advise on how to to get the old heater out please, am I missing something, do I have to split the drums?

    Unplug appliance first :plug:

Undo nut of heater till its at the end of its travel.Push down on nut and shaft till flush with heater casing.
Then its a matter of teasing heater out with flat scredriver or similar, perseverence Im afraid.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m assuming then that there is nothing holding the front of the heater element inside the space betwen the drums. You just use the bent down earthing point stud as a levering point and work away at it.

You gently lever between the outer drum and the metal heater plate having first loosened the ‘compression’ nut.(no force required – easy man!)

The new heating element simply slides in under the internal drum locating lug, ensure the heater plate is flush then tighten the nut to compress the gasket to make a watertight fit 😉
