My Whirlpool ADP9621 was stopping with a fault indication near the start of the cycle, and I found a leak at the spray pump which had been allowing water to get into the motor and possibly other components. Fixed the leak and let things dry out, but it still would not get past the initial filling stage. I was working my way round the sensors, doing start cycle – abort cycle each time. At one point I left it in the fault state for a while, came back and aborted it. It drained ok, but now won’t start at all. The programme selection LEDs light as normal, but no matter how long or short I press the start button no other LEDs come on.
What are the inputs that enable the programme to start ? Presumably includes the door switch, although it would be coincidence if that had also failed – how can I check it ? Any other reset sequence I can do ?

The electronics constantly monitor all components for failure at all stages of the cycle and would normally throw up an eror code in the form of beeps and a flashing light sequence.
This may suggest electronic failure caused by water damage to either the PCB itself or another component in turn damaging the PCB.
Engineer time to be honest I think to rule out the possibles, check the repairs@ link below 🙂

Thanks for the advice. No independent engineers in my area apparently, and I suspect Whirlpool official service will not be economical for a 7 year-old machine – they charged about £140 to fix a leaky internal hose 3-4 years ago as I recall (this is expensive Surrey)
Having poked around a bit more I’m even more inclined to suspect the control board. Google found a service manual for a similar model, from which I checked that the program select/start signal from the ‘User board’ shows the correct levels at the microcontroller input on the Control board, and the microcontroller itself has a valid supply voltage. Being an electronics engineer it’s rather frustrating not being able to debug any further due to lack of information. But the board is very easy to swap out, so 5 mins with a replacement would show if it really is the problem
– What are the chances of finding a replacement control board (type 461972035212) and what is the likely price ?
– If I was to call Whirlpool service, is there any way to ensure that the engineer brings a spare control board, to avoid 2 lots of callout charges ?

There are two control PCB’s for this model depending on the service number from the rating plate starting 85……..
One is a little over £100 and the other one £133 plus carriage 😯
A Whirlpool engineer would probably have one on the van but they wouldn’t charge two call-outs, the price is for the repair rather than per visit.

Thanks – at that price (if I was going to bother at all) I’d probably let Whirlpool take the risk on the board being the faulty part. Although presumably £100/£133 is a ‘trade’ price and doesn’t necessarily reflect what they would charge for the repair anyway ? Nice markup for someone, as a quick look at the board suggests a component cost about £10 max
