What size belt does this machine need? I tried 1956J3 but that was far too long. I then tried 1910J3 but that was far too short. I just checked on Connect and they do list it as 1910J3 but they say something about centre mounted motor , which this machine isn’t. I think I’m onto a loser with this machine as I noticed the outer ring of the heater is burnt out and this seems to be obsolete. Many thanks, Phil.

1910J3 is correct, the centre mount motor refers the Creda models it also fits.

You can still get the heaters, HV3430 from Masterpart 🙂

Thanks Dave. I’ve ordered the heater and I will try another 1910 belt as I have known belts to be marked up wrongly. It should not be all that much shorter than the 1956 but it would only just go round the drum, whereas the 1956 was dangling below the motor spindle.

One mystery solved but only to be replaced by another. Machine lives in an unlit shed so I failed to notice that the packet labelled 1910J3 actually contained an 1800J4 👿 I received the heater filaments and belt from Masterpart today. This time it says 1910J3 on the bag and the belt so it looked promising but this belt is far too long. The nearest other one I have is an 1897J3-EL. This only looks slightly shorter when held against the old belt so I will go back and try that.
The new heater does not come with the glassfibre string that threads through the middle. This string is also broken so should I try to get some new stuff or is it not important?

Would have thought the “string” was pretty vital if the spiral is going to be kept in line and not wander off and short to the metal plate. Sounds to me like you’ve opened up a can o’ worms. At what point do we say it’s too old?(Can’t be much fun working in a dark old shed 🙁 ).

Hoover never supplied the glass fibre string as a spare part. If you are worried about it, yacht chandlers keep it for sale by the metre. Either that or adapt the Hotpoint heater spirals – supplied with carrier string.
