Hi, I have recently bought a second hand Whirlpool ARC5571 Frost free fridge freezer. Since plugging it in when getting it home, the fridge cools down to around -10, adjusting the setting on the thermostat has no effect, it wont even turn off if you move the thermostat to the off position and also the internal light comes on to start with then turns itself off regardless if the door is open or not, but the strange thing is that it does come back on if i turn the fridge off at the wall and leave it off for 20 mins.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated

Firstly, it’s not frost free 😉

It would appear the thermostat has failed if the fridge is getting that cold, a pretty straightforward repair normally, thermostat is around £45 inc carriage if you need one, drop me an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk or if you’d prefer an engineer to check, the repairs@ link below should provide one 🙂

Power off if you look yourself :zap:

Hi dave thanks for the quick reply,

I have chnaged the thermostat once already and the fault is still the same so that was 50 quid down the swanny 😥 Do you have any other ideas what it might be. I have since found out that the fridge was working perfectly at its last home, but it was transported to my house on its side for about 20 mins, do you think this may have done something, also the protective cover is missing from the bottom of the fridge where all the wires fit the various connections.

If not looks like a new fridge is in order 😀

I think that may be the case to be honest 🙁

The move may have damaged the thermostat capillary housing. For certain advice though, an engineer is the only option.

    Dave.
