    Hi

Yesterday our Zanussi ZX97/5 Fridge Freezer started beeping because the temperature was too high even though the door was closed. The red warning light is on to signify that there is a major fault. The fridge and the freezer have both become too warm but the apliance seems to be making the same noises as it always did.

I bought the fridgefreezer 17 months ago so it is outwith it’s guarantee but I’m not too happy about forking out a couple of hundred pounds for an engineer if I can fix it myself.

Has anyone had a similar experience or does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

    Thanks

    Stephen

There’s several references to this range of fridge freezers and this very fault here in the forums but no resolution apart from anengineer to be honest, to find them, if you go to the search here:

Then type in ZX9* (asterisk important) 🙂

We’ve had this problem – ours went wrong 2 weeks after the warranty ran out!

I called an engineer and it turned out that despite being frost-free, there was significant build up of ice in the compartment at the top of the freezer unit that had blocked up the fan. He couldn’t even dismantle the final section due to the amount of ice!

We resolved it by defrosting the fridge but it did take the best part of 2 days! He was right in that I was able to dislodge a sizeable block of ice from near the fan and I also tried to start it up again too early and the fan could be heard hitting the ice.

Don’t know about you, but we’ve always had problems with significant frost build up on the bottom door seal and around the bottom draw. I’d put it down to moisture getting in through there and condensing around the fan – but it now seems the frost build up is a common fault!

Could be an NTC (temp sensor)fault. This model has a safe mode which reverts to running the compressor on and off at timed intervals to preserve food when a fault is detected.
