ParticipantHello everybody,
So far this website and its forums has been invaluable in helping me to choose a side by side fridge-freezer and I hope that the help is about to continue. 😀
I have purchased an Admiral GC2224GEKW which should arrive in the next week. It will be sited on the opposite wall from the nearest water supply and I am trying to track down an extra long cold water hose, approx 5m (min). The longest I can find is 2.5m, is that the longest? If it is then I can build it up with copper but for ease a flexible hose would be better. The house has very good water pressure and so distance should be no problem.
Are the hoses the same as washing machine cold fill ones? Many thanks in advance.

Not at all!
In fact it is a bad idea to extend the water hose the distance you suggest in the first place 🙁 Do instead get your local plumber to re-route the water pipeline adjacent your new fridge. Bearing in mind it is a ‘drinking water supply’ you are intending to use and extended nylon hoses will pollute the water very badly and make your ice cubes taste lousy, believe me 8)
Do it right or not at all your best option 😉

Im sure these come with a reasonable length of hose that you cut down to length and fit couplings on?

The Whirlpool ones you can get an extended hose kit for – don’t know about Admiral.

Martin,
I had forgotten about the contamination angle. So copper it is then. I was wondering why I could not find long fridge hoses anywhere.
many thanks for quick response,
Cheers

gegsy and Penguin45,
Sorry wasn’t ignoring you! I will see the hose when it comes and build up copper supply as appropriate. I would be very impressed if the Americans supply more than a couple of meters. I will also look into the Whirlpool hose extension which might give me a far simpler, and quicker solution. If it comes this week (ha!) then it will have to wait for its water anyway.
Cheers,
Paul

I have just looked at the Whirlppol website and the hose kit (6m!) is ideal.

I cannot think why this will not fit an American Admiral when it comes with the appropriate US fittings. I am going to stick my neck out and order it in the morning. Thanks for the tip Penguin45.

For anyone else who might want this part there is a new Whirlpool ref no.
It is :- 481281718405
£24.99 plus £4 p+p
only drawback is that it comes from Italy and will take about a week.
Hope this is of help.

We sell probably the largest number of fridge filter cartridges in the UK, and the price of £24.99 (plus carriage) for what is essentially 6m of tubing, two 3/4″ BSP connectors and a few couplings is a bit steep – it is something which we can supply (or probably most plumbing merchants – John guest do a range of 1/4″ OD tubing connectors), for probably about twelve quid delivered.
With regards to plastic piping affecting the taste of water – drinking water plastic pipework is low density polyethelene (sp?) – the standard tubing used throughout the entire food and beverage industry. You can run installations much further than 6m without any contamination of the water – I am not saying that is the case with Nylon – but with the flexible tubing that all fridge manufacturers supply you can safely extend this by many metres if you so desire (it’s not uncommon for people to have 10 metres of more in some instances).
Remember though it is mains water! Use cable clips or something to affix to the wall and keep the installation tidy (no forced right angles etc – use connectors if need be). Many people treat flexible pipe with less caution than they would copper in our experience.

Maytag have as a spare part a 3.5metre plumbing in kit, I dont have the number to hand but if you contact them on 01737 231 000
If you havent already received the whirlpool one , I am not sure how that terminates at the valve end, but I can guarantee the Maytag (admiral) hose will connect to the machine and a 3/4 bsp tap -
