The last time I unloaded my washing machine I think smoke was coming out! It was very dense, it could have been steam of course but it was very white and not very hot. There was also a smell, like burned rubber. Any ideas if this can be fixed? I don’t really want to pay an engineer £50 to tell me I need a new washing machine!

    Thank you!

Well if it smell fairly acrid it could be the motor is burning out most likely. If you set it on spin (empty) does it go into spin or are you getting horrible groaning noises instead?….turn it off quickly if you think something is not right?

Motor very costly and uneconomical 🙁

It both spins and groans! It groans without spinning if it’s got more weight than 3 wet towels in it though.
    Time for a new one?

Could require capacitor to kick motor into action, but damage may of already be done to motor ‘as martin said quite an expensive part’

It could also be the drum bearings have failed and the front edge of the drum is rubbing on the door seal (drum dropped).

Also a fairly costly repair 🙁

    Dave.
