Can anyone tell me whether the size of an oven fan has any real effect on the performance of the oven.
I have had a few fan ovens where I have fitted a generic element that is a tiny bit smaller in diameter than the original and the fan fouls or is very close. I have got over the problem by fitting a generic fan.
Any ideas?

I’ve not encountered this problem so far with those pattern elements I have fitted. I didn’t know you could get pattern fans?

The only problem ive encountered is if fan isnt running fast enough to dissipate heat, there causing premature element failure.
Yep, PGS is correct.
Many moons ago we got a batch of Candy fan elements (which we were changing like crazy at the time) which were slightly larger than the original. These had a tendency to fail early as there wasn’t enough air going over the element as the force of the air had diminished but the element’s power was the same. This caused hotspots on the element and they popped. Not every one mind, but still I took note. 😉

The particular machine I am have in mind is the Electrolux EOB944. The Beko 262900006 element is virtually identical, same wattage rating, same diameter (almost) and the same terminals.
The fan was running with about clearance 2mm from the original element. I have replaced the fan with one from a creda oven which is about 10mm smaller diameter.
The reason for this post is to ask if it is safe to mix’n’match fan elements on cookers or is it concidered bad practice?
Next question… where is the ‘best’ position for the thermostat file?
Some machines have the thermostat file behind the element and some in the cavity away from the element.

Ive noticed this too, the lux with the small cover over the element is very tight. the first time I came across it was a couple of years back christmas eve, I explained the problem to the customer and cleared the fan by bending it very slightly at the tips got them through christmas and as far as I know still running ok. Ive done the same with the same type for other customers and had no call backs.

I had this problem several times and there is a Lux element available (genuine only I think) that is slightly larger than the generic ‘small bracket Philips’/Candy element you are probably using. I carry one as stock now as it is an easier option than modifying the generic type.
BUT….then had a problem with one of these genuine ones moving slightly in use (the element will ‘swing’ side to side in its mounting bracket as this is only crimped on to the element) and it fouled the fan after several uses. Only answer was to drill a small hole in the oven back panel to locate the bottom mounting lug centrally. Sorted!!! 8)
This element is on Connections part no. 5031685147099 @ £14.65 + vat; AND there is a pattern equivalent I’ve just found – ELE4532 @ £6.29 + vat.
