I have recently bought a house with a Whirlpool american style fridge freezer – model number 8586 158 15010.

The red light indicating that I need to replace the water filter recently came on. But where do I fit the water filter and what type of water filter do I need?

I rang Whirlpool and they sent water filters for side by side refrigeration . According to the instruction manual that Whirlpool also sent (i didnt have one) these cartridges should be inserted after removing a petrol like cap in the front base grille below the freezer compartment door.

However my fridge freezer doesnt have any such cap. Even when the grill is removed there appears to be no place for a water filter. There is only a drip tray and a water tube.

Do I have an earlier model with a different filter system? Or is it possible that the water filter has been removed? The helpline at Whirlpool are no use. Please help.

Curious – the diagrams for your model quite clearly show a tubular housing running back under the floor of the machine, with a cap in the kick board…..

There’s a few Whirlpool engineers on the site, they may be able to suggest something.

Just confirming what Chris said I have checked on SIOS and it does show a filter for your model, are you sure the number is correct ?.

I have also came across these with the filter removed ( some people dont like the taste of the water through the filter ) it could be that it has been removed and a new plinth fitted.
