ParticipantWe have just inherited a Hotpoint DWF30 dishwasher from my inlaws. Having plumbed it in, we used it the first time without any problems. However, on the second occasion, I turned it on and the machine didn’t progress through the program (set on normal wash 65ºC), but instead just made a noise as though it was about to start. I set it going before going to bed and found it like this the next morning. I got it to start filling with water only by tipping it backwards slightly but it stopped as soon as back upright. Finally it started its cycle when I tipped it forwards + a puddle of water came out from underneath.
Would anyone be able to explain what is happening? I have read in another forum about a flood protection device. How would this become activated and why would water be coming from the bottom of the machine. I have read the instruction manual on line but it provided no answers.

It is possible that you have an internal leak on the machine. Remove the plug and place some towels to hand. Tilt the machine back as far as you can to allow the water to drain away. If the machine now works you will then need to keep an eye on it. If the fault returns then you will need to either find the leak or contact an engineer, try the link in my sig if you need help.
Also avoid using 3 in 1 or 4 in 1 tablets, these can cause oversudsing leading to a flooded base. Use separate Detergent/Rinse aid/Salt .April 26, 2006 at 2:28 pm #174102stuandsal

When you say, the plug, what do you mean? The waste pipe?
I currently have the dishwasher on test in the middle of the kitchen on a couple of pieces of wood to raise it off the ground.
