ParticipantI was wondering if anybody had come across one of these before? It is a built-in combi m/wave integrated with a cooker hood!! 😉 It beats me why whirpool even tried to do it. Any idea’s what they are like to repair and also get the Bl***y thing out.
All comments greatly appreciated.
Regards

Absolute nightmare! Run like hell from this one. Most ridiculous appliance – ever! I did one of the once and swore never to do one again. The customer told me that she phoned Whirlpool and they said that they don’t repair them anymore. She phoned another guy who came alomg, looked at it for a few minutes then walked away. I took it on through foolish personal pride. It’s a 2 man job to remove the thing from the wall. It’s hooked on to adjustable brackets. Even when it’s on the bench it’s not easy getting into. And all this for some crummy cheap microwave with a mechanical timer. Asked to look at one a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say I declined. I advised the customer to stick a cheap standalone microwave in their Tesco trolley and just continue to use the extractor as just that.

Thanks for the reply Ams, tbh thats exactly the first thing that entered my mind! The fault is that it blew the c/b while it was being used as a a m/wave, now the display is dead. I would think it would be a h/v problem although the hood still works. 😕

The hood will still work, once you have the whole thing off the wall the microwave is basically a completley seperate appliance, the only common part being the mains connection block.
If you really want to have a go (and I’d agree they are a total nightmare to work on, I had to phone johnmac11 to find out how to get one apart a few months back) the microwave slides out of the main housing but you need to remove virtually every visable screw to get it out, once you’ve done that and found the problem the leads that connect it aren’t long enough to test so you need to do a virtual rebuild to check.
Walk away would be my advice as previous 😉

I have seen about 6 of these over the years, the last one had a blown mains filter and the rest had the 8a fuse blown.
If it is the fuse it can be done in situ if you are careful, take the top grid/trim off and the control panel will slide up and off to give you 3″ of clearance if you are lucky, the fuse is visable once panel off.
To get the microwave out it is easier to lift off the wall. Then disconnect all the wires going to the microwave from the terminal block at the back l/h top of the unit. Tilt it on its back, remove the mesh filters and take out all the screws above the filter and the microwave should then come free.
5 min job 😆

Thanks for the replies, normally I will have a go and fix anything(within reason) I will ponder on this one overnight and make a decision in the morning.
