hello! Ive been looking at a friends washing machine, im ok with basic maintenance and mechanical problems and was looking for some advice. The brushes were cracked and broken, i took them out and replaced them. still no power, just completely dead. did all the obvious fuses etc and found the door lock was in a bad state, so i replaced that too. When i came to turn the power on the machine just blew the main circuit breaker. Could this be a short circuit in the motor due to the bad state of the brushes? im not too good with electrical problems so where should i start before calling in an engineer? its a hotpoint aquarius 1100 model wm63n. I have checked all the wires and can see no obvious burn marks or breaks! thanks!

You really need to get this machine checked out by someone with the correct test equipment and the required skills. You may have already damaged the main control unit by blowing the fuses, any electrical component in the machine can blow a fuse if it is faulty. Click the link in my sig to see if we have someone who can help you.

As a test on the motor you could always unplug the motor and try the machine with the motor isolated, if the circuit breaker does not trip then you have your answer.

Power off at all times when poking around inside.
