HELP! I have a Whirlpool ARZ 740W American Style (side by side) fridge freezer which was purchased in 2001. Over the past two years, it has begun to run more and more noisily and now intrudes throughout the house whenever the fan/compressor runs. About a year ago, I got someone to take a look at it but he came, he saw and he didn’t conquer. If memory serves me right, I ended up paying about £50 for someone to tell me that they ‘all go like this after a while – nothing you can do’!
Having finally started looking at a replacement, it occurs tto me that it might be cheaper to get it repaired properly than replace it – it didn’t make this much noise when we first got it.
Can anyone help – firstly, is this noise normal? It’s a low vibration type of noise. Second, is it repairable and, if so, is it cost effective to repair. Having lived with the noise for a couple of years, it makes me think we’ll go back to normal fridge/freezers – once the novelty of ice on demand pales, that feature hardly gets used…
Thanks in advance
Jon
