ParticipantAriston A1435UK washing machine s/n 102268580 (5-6 years old)
Blown the 13A fuse. After replacing it, the programming knob started to click.
After a while it stopped and the machine tried to resume normal work.
The motor was making a struggling noise and I could see a lot of arcing
coming from the motor area. With the belt removed the motor spins
but is producing a burning smell and arcing.
With the belt on the mot will not move at all.Do you thing that changing the brushes would help or we are talking
new motor?
Thanks in advance

You would have to inspect the motor commutator for raised segs ,discolouration and score marks.
If none of the above are apparent, then try new brushes.Power of before doing any work on the appliance :plug:

Thanks Greg
I got the motor out. In general the commutator looks ok.
About 5 consecutive segments have signs of increased wear
( the edges are more worn out with a bit of discoloration)There is almost 2 cm of the carbon left on each brush.
Would cleaning the commutator help?

Yes, but use a comstick, never use anything abrasive eg sandpaper etc.
Place comstick vertically on commutator and turn motor shaft until com is shiny.
2cm isnt a great deal of carbon, IMO I would use link below and order a pair up, if you are happy with the condition of the motor.Greg

Pardon my ignorance but what is “comstick”?

No problem rafal
A comstick is a tubular stick packed tightly with glass fibre.
You should be able to find one if you do a search on the internet, or maybe an automotive shop.
Hope that helpsGreg
