    Hi
I have a Siemens KG36U120GB fridge freezer, whilst being a very reliable at cooling food, it has developed a very annoying habit of sounding the alarm beep without the alarm LED coming on without any apparent reason. When the Fridge/freezer is first turned on from warm, the alarm works normally with the sound and LED working at the same time. It’s only after when it appears to be normal temperature, that it decides to sound the alarm and will stop when it feels like it (or when the Alarm button is pressed). It does not sound so loud now as I have stuffed the buzzer inside the top panel on the circuit board with blue tack! but I can’t help thinking that this would mean I might not hear it if there was a real alarm.
Does anyone know if this is normal and is telling me something or where I can look to fix the fault (bad sensor etc).
    Thankyou

    Hi Greg
Nope! not at all it’s at -16C, whilst the fridge is 8C. The sound can be cancelled with Alarm button but it will return within a few minutes. The manual only refers to Alarm condition with a visual display either the Alarm LED or the 7 segment LED which displays the temperature.
    Cheers

-16 😯 , It doesnt allow selection higher than -18. It sounds like you have a defrost problem in the freezer.
These machines are quite involved and would seriously consider locating an engineer from link below.
Just before you bite the bullet, have you done any of these recently?
    1. Left super freeze on for a mad length of time
    2. Freezer door been left ajar for a period
    3. Over filled freezer

What you could do is turn it off for 24hrs and see how it goes, if fault re-occures then engineer time.

    Just to add.
Never ignore an alarm, they are there for your interest.
Full or partial defrost is imminent and may render food useless and maybe a danger to your health.

Re: An annoying little alarm from Siemens

    Hi Greg!
Well, I’ve just checked, it allows me to select freezer temp from -16C to -26C. I have also a Bosch KGU3102GB which is much the same beast and I never have this sort of fuss from it. Due to this, the Siemens has no food in the freezer, only the fridge, the freezer door is never opened and not not left on super.
Thanks for your suggestions, however, I have had the Siemens from new and I know that it never had this sort of problem before so it does, in my way of thinking, point to a alarm condition problem rather than trying to tell me something worth knowing.
    Cheers

    Hi
Thats odd because they usually start at -18 as this is the eco setting and minimum really for safe freezing 😕
I would IMO get this checked by engineer just to make sure 😉

    Just a quickie…..
Has the fault occured whilst freezer has been empty or did you empty it because of alarm activation??
Frost free fridge freezers should never be run with freezer empty, it really does upset them 🙄 and can cause an upset with the general balance of the defrost cycle.

Re: An annoying little alarm from Siemens

The fault occured first of all with the freezer full of food. Then we moved house, and the fridge has been empty and turned off until last week when I started to use it. Hoping that the fault was a qerky thing that happened in our last house, it really dissapointed me to discover that it started misbehaving again. Having said that, the sound has gone now, and yes I found the super had been chosen! I think my wife had been pushing anything she could find that would stop the noise! but I’m sure it will return. I really can’t see that it would be upset that it’s been empty for a week! but I’ll try with some books in there!

As Greg said, the alarm does not sound for no reason.

You will have some kind of problem with the defrost cycle or components. Do yourself a favour and call an engineer, as these are very complicated beasts and not for the DIY’er.

Re: An annoying little alarm from Siemens

I have just discovered that if the fridge/freezer is tilted/rock the alarm goes away. Is there an alarm to tell me that it’s not vertical? I can’t imagine it and should only complain if it is upside down!
    Thanks for your advice.
PS what does IMO stand for?

No there isnt a tilt senser, and dont be doing that incase you cause damage or blockage to gas system.
    IMO = In my opinion.

Or the door thinks it isnt shut. Alarm without light is door open on mine. Is light switch being pressed up by fridge door and magnet sensor on freezer door look intact? No fridge magnets on door is there?

Re: An annoying little alarm from Siemens

    Thanks Simon and Greg,
Both switches are little spring loaded buttons which seem to work fine, although I have moved the fridge magnets well away from them. It’s still beeping away BTW so IMO I should get it checked out.
    Cheers, John
