ParticipantHi,
My ancient Hotpoint WM20 seems to have a sticky drum. The drum won’t turn during a cycle – will fill with water and empty again without turning. Can hear the motor (or something) clicking and trying to turn.
If I manually spin the drum before putting a cycle on, it will then turn, but will stick again part way through. Sometimes, you can see it trying to move, then sticking.
Is this the brushes? Or something else?
Have tried to take a look at the brushes (which are almost flush with the motor), but can’t get them out! How do they come out?
Thank you very much

Hi
You could have a faulty segment/s on the commutator, or maybe a dry joint on the PCB.Power off before investigating :plug:

Hi Greg,
Many thanks. You don’t think it’s a brush problem then?
Do you know of anywhere I could get further information on these problems from, and how to fix them?
Cheers
Zac

As long as the brushes are free moving along their holder as you push them in and spring out. Check the connections to each brush an the motor plug pins.

Hi,
I took a look at them last night, the ends are almost flat with the motor, which I’m guessing means that they are worn down??? When I push them, there is nothing really to push in. Would worn brushes cause my problem?
I did try to get them out, but wasn’t sure how to go about it and didn’t want to force them.
Thanks again for your help greg.
Regards
Zac
