Been out to a Baumatic single fan oven, I changed the base and dual grill elements – tested the oven and it worked fine.
Customer has had the oven for four years and didn’t realise the oven was a fan oven. she had been using the convention oven setting to cook everything.
Received a call 1hr after I had left the job, ‘The yellow thermostat neon is lit even though the oven selector switch and stat are at the 0 position.
If you turn the stat the neon turns off when the stat’s current temp is reached.
Is this normal or should the cooling fan be running until the stat neon goes out?
    Any help greatfully received.

sold a few of these new and they ALL showed the neon on when first connected I put it down to stat not calibrared to below room temp. but after first use this seems to cure itself. I asked customers to contact me if the “fault” persisted…. no call backs!………….yet!

    hope this helps wilf

p.s. instructions say that these need no ventilation as the top which can be handy if space is tight

As the neon could be live, awaiting a nuetral switch, if the resistor inside the neon goes faulty it will glow.

Recently on an MFI oven the neon was dropping 120volts across it, when indeed it should have been off, causing it to light. It also worked fine when the oven was at temperature.

sounds like a low resistance on the elements.
Not enough to blow trip had this on nardi cookers on most occassions heating the cooker up gets rid of the neon illuminating if problem still exists check earth leakage on all elements.

Was a engineer for Baumatic for 4 years and this was a common problem. Will go out after element has been used a few times.

just remebered they brought out a replacement neon with a resistor to stop this problem.
but when fitted the neon was alot dimmer and people complained.
Is a low resistance from the element and will sort it self out with use!!
was fun haveing to go to customers with new machines and tell them this fault was normal!!!

    Thanks for the help.
I rang cust this morning and after using the oven last night the neon has gone out.
Only she is now saying that the cooling fan stops imediately after switching the oven off. before it would run for a while after switching off.
Do they use a TOC, PCB or is the customer going doolally?

PS – She used the fan oven for the first time,’It’s great it cooks so much quicker, the chicken nuggets were nice and crispy’.

    Re: Baumatic Single fan oven

    sounds about right
have a single baumatis and the cooling fan rarely carrys on after cooker switched off on fan oven.
the stat that controls this is near the top oven element so may well get hotter when using conventinal oven rather than fan assist.
