ParticipantHi
My 8 year old Hotpoint Aquarius DF61 has developed a fault
It seems to start correctly, fills with water and goes into the wash cycle. Then 3/4 of the way through (on the dial) just falls silent and stops. If you click the dial on slightly there is further noise but again after a short spell it stops again.
If you click it around to ‘Rinse’ it makes noises and carrys on to the end with what sounds like pumping but when I open the door it’s pretty dry and so I’m pretty certain it’s not ‘rinsing’
Perhaps this isn’t the fault though and maybe because I’m moving the dial on and clicking it past any sort of ‘clean water re-fill’ on the dial, so there’s no water for the actual rinse ❓
If you click it as far as the drying section the timer continues to the end and drys the half washed and un-rinsed plates 🙁
I’ve read other threads about the DF61 on this brillaint forum (cheers guys) and am pleased to find out it’s actually a Bosch under the bonnet.
Maybe expensive to repair though
I have some experience in repairing washing machines myself over the years, with motors and brushes etc but dishwashers are so far are unknown to me.
I think to get inside, it’s through the underside which doesn’t sound like much fun but I’m gonna take a look tonight after work.
Any common first faults on this one or obvious things I should be looking for? Leaks etc? I live in Reading in a very hard water area
I would appreciate any advice

No access whatsoever from underneath. This machine is controlled by an electro mechanical timer as opposed to electronic controls that are now the norm so no error codes are shown. Access is very difficult on this machine, major components such as the circulation pump etc require the removal of the inner stainless steel cabinet. It should be well worth having repaired but I would strongly advise getting it looked at by someone with the correct technical information.

Yeah, I soon discovered that they’ve built it from the ground up, so gave up on the ‘dismantling’ idea after 4 screws and 2 panels
Ah well at least I tried. 😕
Further experimenting with the ‘fault’, shows that it always stops exactly at the same spots on the ‘mechanical timer’ (around 3/4 the way through main wash), so I don’t think it’s a stat or a pressure switch or anything like that as I’m sre there would be a slight variation each time.
If you click the dial just slightly, it then continues on for a while before stopping again at exactly the same spot before the rinse cycle. `
When it stops, the thing is silent there is no buzz or whiring in the timer at all, as if it’s finished the job.
But again by clicking it just a notch on into ‘rinse’, it works fine and continues on to the end of the program as normal.
I checked futher and all the pumping in and out seems to occur at the right place and times. There is just this issue of it stopping twice mid wash and if your not there to click it on it just sits there.
Perhaps it’s just a faulty timer (though I guess thats a fair few ££££’s).
Thanks for the information and advice iadom

Could be a timer, a heater fault would not stop the machine dead although a faulty valve and blockages in certain areas could. Timer is around £70.00 + vat so with labour should still be a viable repair compared to replacing it with another Hotpoint, which is now an Indesit under the skin 😥 .
You would have to pay around £300 upwards to get the same quality.
Still worth getting it checked out before you stick a timer in that isn’t needed IMHO.
