ParticipantHi All my first post and so glad Ive found you.. I have been living with this freezer with a flickering display for 9 months now and im verging on having a fit…
The Model Number is S20BRSB21-A/G
8586 151 15000
11 0227 011015
Owned it 3 years before it started playing up.The fault:
At first the display started to flicker slowly. If you raised the temperature the flicker would stop for a day or so.
Over the weeks the flicker got faster and then the increase in temp did nothing to stop it.
now the flickering is at about 5 pulses per second and trying to change temp or switch ice on or off is nearly impossible. Its as if the processor is busy working and the button presses are being ignored unless you hit it between flickers.
I wondered if this might be related to the stats. The fridge and freezer works but i would say it is colder than the -18 and 5 degs shown.
Ice maker works and the water dispenser works without pulsating.
the ice dispenser no longer goes round. When the paddle is pressed for ice or water the flicker gets even faster.. its like its on speed…I have read some posts about this, which mention swapping capacitors etc but it doesnt seem to be the whole answer although i will get into this if all else fails(qualified engineer) .
On a more basic note Where is the second board? I have already had the front panel off. Is it mounted on the rear of fridge somewhere?
Also anybody got a wiring schem for this unit?
Appreciate any help you could give
Thanks Dave (stafford) 😀June 18, 2006 at 9:23 am #179408gegsy

You’ll need both boards. Main board is bottom rear of machine. They’re not bad to move as they are on wheels.

Thanks DP
Have done to Capacitor change with no effect. Still flashing display.Although after the fridge had been off for 20 mins or so the freezer was high on temperature and needed to cool down. During this period the display did not flash then when it reached temp the flashing returned.. I have this nagging thought about the thermo stats being duff.
I know where they connect to the board how do I test them?I cant be sure yet but the fridge side still doesnt seem to be getting cold enough.. thermometer in there now
cheers Dave

Spoke to whirpool today!!
Authorised repair agent including both boards and call out..£289.90
Spoke to Customer care on 0870 429 4280 (option 5)
They can offer an insurance policy via Domestic and General which will cover this repair and a further 1 years cover for £140.
Not bad value, but Ill be blowed if im going to pay for this..
My next step is to email the customer care dept with a letter stating the fault and my position in law and lets see what happens.
Its obvious these boards have a fault designed in . Its time to stand up and counted..
Wish me luck

Engineers Been
Quite right both boards replaced and left within 15 minutes.. But the fridge side still not cooling.Engineer came back 1 week on. Apparently the gate which opens to allow cold air in from the freezer is not operating so we get no circulation just frozen stuff in the bottom by the meat chiller drawer and furry stuff at the top.. coming back next week with parts.. all this is foc from Whirlpool other than the first call out fee paid by me. Not bad really 😀

Yea considering parts in total on completion would have been around £300 😉
