To do it properly you need a new plug.
Wiring is basically reversed, hence the reason inverting the plug works.
However, it’s not very professional IMO and can lead to problems if someone unplugs the motor in the future and didn’t know the plug was inverted.DP

Motor fixing kit is a 1604976, however if you remove the lugs, invert the plug then affix a label so that anyone who repairs it in the future, who is careless enough not to note the position of the plug before removal will be forewarned.
Or better still use an ARM20 armature from Qualtex, new brushes and a TOC17 if the overload has blown.

ARM20 out of stock with Q/tex for the last 2 months – no due date at present. And I’m out as well 🙁 .

Masterpart have 1604822 on special offer at £34:99 , now that really is a bargain :D. Don`t know what you guys pay for ARM20 but surely the new motor at that price is better all round.

thanks guys ,iaddom when u say cut the lugs off i presume u mean on rast plu so it enters wiith lug edge opposite to grooves in motor plug,if this works why buy 1604976 and what do u get in kit for your money, how much.why dont they leave things alone, with gec motor, bet indesit are lurking somewhere, thanks richard.

I very rarely fit complete motors but I had to use one last week due to ARM 20’s being out of stock., ( I have been promised delivery next week )I always reverse the motor plug after removing the small lugs on the Rast plug. This is standard practise amongst most Hotpoint engineers as well.
The easiest way is to note which two wires go to the tacho and make sure that you have them lined up.The FHP motor came into to general use long before the Indecent Company got their grubby paws on Hotpoint.

Not always, if the machine has a pecker door release then you cannot use that motor on its own, there is nowhere to mount the two earlier pecker types. You then have to have the kit.

Can`t think of any pecker mechanism problem I `ve had when using this motor as a direct replacement , certainly no problem fitting the very common most recent pecker and better still if no pecker at all.
Did once get caught out on a non digital Hotpoint when changing to FHP but that`s a different motor and new door cable kit was required.
Maybe I`ve just been lucky 😕

The earliest pecker which sits on the outside of the motor cannot be refitted to an FHP motor, still lots of them about round here.

Ah yes , I know the pecker you mean now but never come across it when swapping to 1604822.
Anyway Richard`s WM52 doesn`t have any pecker mech. so he has the choice without any problem apart from considering whether to change complete motor or replace armature etc. At £34:99+vat it`s motor for me.
BTW , I thought you were having slight pulley alignment problems with ARM20`s or has that been resolved :?:.
