ParticipantHotpoint WD860G – less than a year old and with an extended warranty, so getting it fixed is not a problem. Just wondered if this could be a major or minor thing they are likely to be able to fix first visit.
On a dry cycle, the RCD in the house tripped (I assume from this fault). Ever since, the dry function fails to work. It goes through the motions, but never heats up. RCD has not tripped since so guess whatever blew is well and truley dead.
And just something to rant about! Why don’t these copmanies have engineers who work outside of working hours!! I now have to wait 2 weeks to get this fixed!

as for the fault is all the machine working other than the dryer if so maybe its just an element and pretty straightforward as for the working outside of hours
i work 9 to 5 when you go home for your tea i want to as wellJune 25, 2006 at 7:54 pm #180046WDK8990
ParticipantThanks. Yes, all other machine functions are working fine. Just the heat for the dryer that is dead.
I know what you mean about wanting to get home at 5. But I’m sure there are people who would be happy to work outside normal hours given the choice.

As there are people who need an appliance repaired who are prepared to take time off work to accomodate the working hours of an engineer to carry out the repair 😉
Purely out of interest, would you be happy to pay a higher call/labour charge for an “out of hours” call as this question is often asked ?
Dave.

ParticipantYes, if I were paying for a repair then I wouldn’t mind a premium for out-of-hours service, and when it’s a 1st year warranty issue, I think it should either be offered as a courtesy for your expensive product breaking down or an add-on when purchasing (like an extended warranty).

I take it that you are one of them, 😉

Not likely 😀 But my job does occasionally mean I have to work out-of-hours.
But then I’m the customer in this instance, who has to be inconvenienced by taking a day off work to wait for an engineer to fix a 6 month old product.
I think that in the 1st year they should certainly give people the option of out-of-hours engineers. Yes, they will have to pay them more, but that a small hit to take for customer satisfaction.

I think I’m right in saying that Hotpoint (and other companies) do in fact provide this service (“out of hours” meaning 9 to 5, Mon – Friday) by making Saturday morning appointments available. 😉

ParticipantIf that’s the case then the people who take the calls don’t know about it as they said on working hours.
She did say the engineers occasionally “volunteer” to do weekends, but there was no way of requesting one of these slots and that they almost never happened.

Most Hotpoint engineers have 1 day a week when they nominate as their late night for after 5 calls, but not all engineers are on this contract. My late night is a Monday has been for over 20 years, if the late calls are booked you have to wait. We get asked to take 1st calls, late calls call between this time, avoid school run, phone an hour before calling, try and fit that lot in an 8 hour day it aint easy, plus checking and returning stock.Every engineer has an option to work 1 Saturday morning in 10 if the workload requires.
