Our fridge freezer seems to do all the right things to get down to the relevant temperatures in both fridge and freezer compartments. However, when it gets there it does click back on to maintain the temp,so overnight it thaws out the freezer and the fridge warms up.
If you hold the doors open for the temp to drop it seems to recognise that the temp has dropped then.

The only way we can maintain a stable temp is to turn it off at mains and switch on again.

this sounds very computer like to me!
We have called out an engineer who is used to mending fridges but is stumped what the problem is.
I am loath to call out someone else if all it needs is a printed circuit board replacement at back (saw one replaced when it was under guarentee) or the control unit at the front with the led display.
I have been involved in building computers, but don’t know anything about fridge freezers.
    Would really appreciate some advice.
    thanks lots

Hi – I assume this is the RS21 model (label on front left side panel will tell you) if not please repost with further details. Usually this problem is not the PCB but more a problem with ice building up. Many of the lads on this forum are Samsung trained so if you let us have your postcode I have no doubt someone can help.

    Really appreciate your reply.
Can’t find anything on front left side panel, but on the side of the appliance there is a label saying ss20whi/xeu.

Now what you say about the ice build up does ring a bell-the fan started making a noise before we had problems with it and the guy who came out said that the noise would have been the fan hitting ice.

It has been completely defrosted since then and when the guy came he undid the covers inside the fridge and said there was no ice there.
The reason I posted here was that I don’t want to fork out a load more money for someone to come a replace a simple thing I could do myself.

    OUr postcode is LN5-lincoln,newark.
    Really appreciate your help.

Re: Samsung American style fridge/freezer temp problems

    Hi Mum

    the following will help.

If the appliance is left alone does the whole appliance switch off and defrost even though the lights are on after approx 18 – 24 hrs ?
if you then turn the appliance off then back on it will then start to work normally again for approx same time ?

If so then the problem will be the defrost sensor in either the fridge or the freezer section.(not knowing which model you have)…. change both if a twin evaperator system.

If the freezer section works but the fridge doesnt get cold then it will either a fan or defrost problem but will need to know the correct model number.

Re: Samsung American style fridge/freezer temp problems

thanks for the reply Bryan-I have n’t left it as long as 18-24 hours, but it does sound like the first problem-ie sensors?

    My model number is SR-s2026cvw.

Are the sensors something that an amateur can replace.
I can tinker about inside a computer and replace bits, but I assume a fridge freezer needs a bit more know how?
    thanks lots Dawn

I meant to ask in my last post about how the symptoms differ between say a sensor needing replacing and a pcb needing replacing.

also I wanted to say that I really appreciate the advise.

I am not trying to do anyone out of a job,but I have already spent money we don’t have on someone coming out who did n’t fix it.
    thanks again.

    hi dawn

I am 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure that the PCB wont need to be replaced.

The sensor is located behind the panel assembly in the rear of the freezer compartment, where dod you live ?

Re: Samsung American style fridge/freezer temp problems

    Hello Bryan again
we live in the lincoln/newark area.
I notice you are based a long way away-do you do repairs via telephone where we would pay you?! ie. you tell us what to do and we do the donkey work?
I ask because I am not having much luck contacting people via the repairs@ link-they have replied to say they are either too far away or short staffed so don’t do our area.
    yes-I know I sound desperate!
