Got home yesterday evening to find that our Brandt Fridge/Freezer appears to have packed up during the day. It’s a frost free model no. CFA331WU.

The freezer compartment was slowly defrosting and the fridge compartment was barely cold at all. The fridge light comes on when I open the door so the plug fuse must be OK, but the green LED that should indicate that the fridge/freezer is on isn’t lit. The controls haven’t been altered so its not been turned off accidentally. There’s been no symptoms up to this point of anything failing. No ice build up and its been maintaining temperature OK.

There’s no engineers listed for our post code area (RG14) and I guess I pretty much knew this was a throw away model when i bought it, but before I consign it to the fridge mountain does anyone have any ideas?

Does this model have an internal fuse that might have blown?

    Any help much appreciated…

    I think the model is CFA311WU ?

It sounds like the control PCB to be honest as there is little else controlling the unit. It’s around £50 as a guide (I can supply if required) so it may be worth repairing.

I have no listing for refrigeration engineers in the RG area either 🙁

Anyone covering that can help ? 🙂

    Dave.

    Hi Dave

You’re right about the model number. I should have been paying more attention when I had my head stuck in the salad drawer tgis morning. The control board sounds like it might be worth a try and its worth some effort to avoid adding to the fridge mountain.

Is it easy enough to swap out the old control board? I’m assuming its at the top of the fridge behind the fascia?

Yep, that’s where it is 🙂

Don’t forget to power off when checking. An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please if you’d like the part

    Hi Dave

Thanks for your help. email is on its way.

One quick question though. I’ve removed the fascia at the top of the fridge freezer, but I can’t quite see how you release the control board. I don’t want to go using brute force if there’s some more gentle method of persuading it to shift.

It looks like there might be some clips along the back, but the release mechanism isn’t obvious to a dummy like me.

    cheers

    Bruce

To be honest I can’t remember exactly but I think it’s clipped on 😉

just pull with a pair of pliers all that holds it in are edge connectors at the rear of the circuit board.

Part turned up yesterday. Fitted it last night and fridge is now back working! Many thanks for the remote diagnosis Dave and speedy delivery of the part.

Thanks for the pliers tip expertcat. Wasn’t being quite forceful enough with it. You know the usual story though, lever something out and discover afterwards there was a nifty little clip you’re supposed to release, but its now too late and you have lots of broken bits of plastic…
