I have a Large number of used spares of machines stripped down after customers decided to buy new.

Would any of you people be interested in setting up an exchange scheme to share used parts umongst ourselves to get each other out of trouble now and again.

    Re: Used Spares

    I would.
I think one way to do it would be to post lists of parts available in the classified forum. The posts would stay there indefinitely and so anyone wanting a particular part would just use the site search facility to find a “supplier.”
Obviously the drawback is that listing parts takes time so it’s only worth doing for expensive stuff like motors. No good just listing as “Zanussi motor,” obviously. You’d have to quote the part number so that anyone could find exactly what they needed.

A sense of indignation pervades the air when the term ‘used spares’ is mentioned. Many members of this site frown at the mere thought and would never venture that path, therefore using this site to propogate such dealing may be unwise and may effect those registered with Repairs@ if the AC take umbridge on the issue?

I agree with Martin here. Whilst there is the odd ocassion where only a second hand part will do (because the part is obsolete, for example), I am totally against the use of second hand spares for normal repairs.

I am not reffering to any electronic parts EG. modules, pcb’s timers or motors, as i would always fit new in this position.
I am refering to items like a stainless steel inner drum,For example Mrs bloggs puts her husbands work clothes in the machine and the screw left in his pocket rips a gash in the drum so her clothes get ripped to pieces in the next wash. If i had an identical drum in perfect condition removed from another machine i would offer my customer the option of a brand new drum at it’s correct price, or the used drum in perfect condition at a reduced price with the same gaurantees i give all my customers.
Or even outer drums with new bearing and seals installed, Glass door bowls and other non elictrical or mexchanical parts.

I have to say that we do not and will not fit s/h spares, it’s just not worth the risk. The claims you get every now and again of, “you only fixed it a few months ago”, when it was two years previous are bad enough. Sticking in a s/h drum I’ve always been very wary of, if the collar is knack’d then you get a recall six months later to do bearings FOC, not exactly my idea of a stress free life.

Some customers arelikely fine with it though and, in the end, to each their own. I do have one big problem here though…

I’m having to agree with Martin and that just won’t do…
