just a quick query, my great uncle’s fridge freezer went wrong today. he thought a fuse had blown but i checked and it was still running just not cooling.i turned temp down, but made no difference so he called someone out ffrom the paper. the repairman said that the gas inside was low and charged him £60 to top it up. Is this possible? freezer is 18 months old, unsure of make but came from argos so nothing obscure. repair man said he’d be happy to call again in case it needed more. please put my mind at rest and tell me this is a common fault as i can’t find it anywhere on line and at 80 my uncle is quite vunerable.. many thanks
It is quite normal to “Top Up” an appliance once, as sometimes they leave the factory a little low.
If said engineer has to call back again for same reason, I would be thinking a small leak either on external pipework (easily fixed) or failing that internal pipework (not accessible ie in the insulation, making the appliance un repairable)
