ParticipantHi, I have a fault Smeg dishwasher that keeps tripping my RCD/ circuit breaker.
It always trips mid-wash cycle, but don’t know if it’s the element or Brushes on the motor. (I had a washing machine problem some time ago and it turned out to be the brushes).
Is there a ‘service manual’ available to assist me or, a simple test I can perform to diagnose properly?
any help appreciated.

Circulation pump is an induction motor type, so brushes are not an issue with this appliance. Heating element is a tubular type under the tub, so access is awkward to say the least. A multimeter is required for continuity testing and the know how to use it correctly.
If you’re not sure, click the link below to find a UKW engineer in your area. Please ensure power is off if you plan to investigate further.

my smeg dishwasher has developed the same fault , tripping the rcd mid cycle. has anyone found the cause of this fault.
any help greatly appreciated.
1. it trips about 10 mins after the tablet is released.
2. i can reset the Rcd and the washer continues to the end of its cycle with no further tripping and no flashing lights either.
3. happens every time it is used every day.November 18, 2014 at 11:08 pm #180557electrofix

since the heater comes on just after the tab is released that’s where I would start
you will need to measure the resistance of the heater to earth (disconnected) anything under 1,000,000 ohms is suspectDave

Thanks dave. Tested that but it doesn’t read anything at all so I assume the heater is okay. But I found 2 water leaks so I’m sealing those and try again..It seems seals were not a big concern on smeg as they provided a catchment area and suction pump that it drains on start up. Could there be anything else I should be looking at?. Or where could I get a step by Step guiDe on this machines full cycle .ie drain, rinse cold, drain, tab release and so on .

I assume you are looking at the float in the base. if water leaks it lift the float and drain the dishwasher to stop the leak. it does NOT drain the water that has leaked into the base just what is in the wash area
if your leak gets onto electrical parts it will cause the tripping

Just confirming . Stopped all the leaks and the machine has not tripped the rcd since.
Thanks Dave . I always thought that the float was actually linked to the pump and sacked up any leaked water on start up ?
excellent forum by the way!Davy g

the float is linked to the pump but only to pump out the wash water to stop floods
