The fridge freezer Kyoto KF62/33FF was purchased from an Iceland store late 2000 and suffers temperature control problems in the fridge and icing of the freezer evaporator/ drain hole.

The freezer pulls down to -25 ( which I gather is in spec) but the fridge varies between 0 and +8 irrespective of the position of the thermostat knob (Door not opened during that time). When the thermostat knob is set to 0 however, it does turn the fridge/ freezer off OK. The thermistors in the fridge and freezer compartments check out OK (around 2.4k for the freezer @ 20C, 18k @ -20C & around 4k for the fridge @ 20C). Defrost coil checks out at 300ohm and the fan functions OK. The evaporator coil ices up very quickly though blocking the freezer drain hole and ultimately stopping airflow across the coil and hence giving problems with temp. regulation in the freezer. There are signs that the evaporator defrost coil has been on (frozen drips down the coil) but I have never been able to catch it in the act. Where is the moisture comming from, the door seals look OK.

Iceland told me that this is a Brandt model but when I rang them they denied all knowledge.

    Any thoughts re:

    Temperature control in the fridge
Why the freezer evaporator ices up and doesn’t defrost fully

I have done a visual on the control board (I come from an electronics background) no obvious connector/joint problems so any failure would have to be a component fault. The board is a TW ISPRA controls CU4700. If the problem is a control board issue then can I get a spare and at a reasonable cost. The fridge plant appears to be working well I don’t really want to ditch the fridge freezer.

Sorry about the long explanation but any help would be gratefully received.

It most certainly is a Brandt and the PCB is the single most common problem with these.

As long as the defrost heater is OK (the thermistors aren’t replaceable) there isn’t much else you can replace on these to be honest.

The PCB is 45X8924 at £65.30 inc VAT and carriage which I can supply, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please if required 🙂

Thanks Dave. Without putting you on the spot, obviously you haven’t seen the fridge freezer do you think it sounds like the control board. I don’t know what symptoms these normally exhibit on this model.

I suppose you don’t stock the top, drop down freezer compartment cover (the one above the three baskets) as well? It got a bit of heavy handed use and has a crack in it.

    Many thanks

Normally they either go completely dead or the defrost cycle doesn’t work correctly so it sounds like the latter in this case, but as you say, I can’t be certain 😉

I can order the top flap, it’s about £15 inc VAT 😯

Good enough for me Dave. I will drop you a line on the e-mail address.

    Thanks again
