ParticipantI tend to purchase Universal fill hoses in both 1.5 metre and 2.5 metre lengths. I was wondering if anybody else is experiencing difficulty in getting fill hoses not to drip. Even with PTFE tape I am having more trouble than I have ever had when fitting these hoses. The hoses don’t always leak straight away, I had a call today where I fitted the hose a month ago.

Not had any problems. We have used Connect’s 1.5 and 2.5 red and blue for donkeys never any problem. Do the hoses you use come with a decent thickness seal I wonder?

The hoses make a face seal, so ptfe tape won’t help you……. I’m finding that hand tight and a teeny nip does the trick with the last batch I bought.

I was wondering who it was that keeps slapping PTFE tape on inlet valves? 🙄
But seriously, no probs with inlet hoses in the main (usually Qualtex in my case) Very occasionally I get one that leaks under the crimp but that is often due to extreme water pressure. I’ve never ever had a leaking sealing washer. (As Chris says.. “Hand tight then a tiny nip with the pliers”) 🙂

Thanks for the replys. Hand tight, quarter turn with my swan necks is my normal approach as well. PTFE as a last resort, funny though the PTFE does generally work, so must do something. I know the hoses make a face seal but the PTFE tape obviously acts as a secondary measure to reduce the chance of water creeping through the threaded part of the hose. I know…I know if the seal was right in the first place you wouldn’t need a secondary measure. But a ‘FAIL SAFE’ option is always worth while especially when a new kitchen cupboard is on the cards.

does anybody know if somebody makes hoses with angled fittings at both ends, would be handy after some dozy plumbers 🙄 put taps too close to walls & kitchen unit sides…. 👿 😡

Hi
you can buy just the bent ends through connect and then use a jubilee clip.

An ex-employee once had a leaking hose connection, so instead of either changing the rubber washer, or adding another one to make a good seal, he put a plastic bag around the connection, taped the top and bottom and walked away!! The same engineer was also a big fan of self-cutting (self-tapping) taps, and he put a self-tapper right onto a customers central heating return. Needless to say he doesn’t work for us anymore.

I’ve never had a problem with any inlet hoses since the Indesit L6 / 2000 ‘separate washer’ types. You know, the ones that used to craze and crack for a pastime and cut their washers to ribbons when you tightened them up. (remember them?). Ahhhh, those were the days………
But I have found that the hose washers available loose from Connect are far too small in diameter to make a good seal if tightened up at all. They are about 1/8″ too small which causes the washer to be ‘cut’ by the threaded end of the valve, rendering it useless immediately. The washers do not sit snugly in the hose end so they are able to move around as the hose is tightened up and invariably go off – centre and leak like a sieve. Stupid things!! Maybe the PTFE inadvertently fills the gaps?
Please note that this problem, of course, only happens on hoses in tight, spider – filled cupboards and behind inaccessible integrated machines that are full of water with pump failure. 👿

Went to a under gaurantee job many years ago,
customer was giving me a hard time as soon as i walked through the door, IT had flooded the flats below.
they used garden hose as fill hoses
he assured me a plumber had done it,
It was nice telling him it was a botch job and charging him -
